Gulf Air is enabling travelers to better understand and to help address their carbon emissions. When you fly with Gulf Air, you can then contribute to a portfolio of climate solutions – selected by Gulf Air, in partnership with Safa. Your contribution will specifically support projects that reduce or remove carbon emissions in an amount equivalent to your flight's estimated carbon footprint.

How it works
Estimate your carbon emissions
Based on your travel information, we will estimate your individual carbon footprint based on the type of aircraft you are traveling with. Our CO2 emissions calculations are based on International Air Transport Association (IATA) Recommended Practice RP 1726.
Understand and act on your carbon footprint
Once you understand the carbon emissions associated with your flight, the option to help address these emissions will be presented during the process of purchasing your ticket. If selected, you will receive an email receipt confirming your support of carbon projects.

You help address your carbon emissions by supporting a selection of high-impact carbon projects. Our project portfolio is verified by the most stringent international standards, and each project either reduces or removes global CO2 emissions.
What is a carbon footprint?
Your carbon footprint, or a company’s carbon footprint, is an estimation of all of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that result from daily activities, transactions, or operations – such as a flight. The CO2 emissions of a flight mainly depend on the aircraft used, the distance flown, and the number of passengers and cargo the aircraft carries.
How are my carbon emissions calculated?
Our CO2 emissions calculations are based on and take into account parameters such as all scheduled flights, aircraft fuel consumption, seat configuration, and historical load factors for more than 400 airlines.
What is carbon offsetting and how does it work?
Carbon offsetting is a mechanism that enables individuals and organizations to advance climate action by supporting certified third-party projects that contribute to the reduction or removal of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Certified projects issue carbon credits, which act as an instrument for selling or trading the project’s associated removal or reduction impact. Each carbon credit represents a single unit of GHG emissions (being one (1) tonne carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e)) that is reduced or removed from the atmosphere or the carbon cycle. A unit of GHG emissions can be reduced or removed through various methods or project types. Carbon offsetting provides financing for these certified projects. The purchase of a carbon credit enables the buyer to contribute to these projects, and one often purchases offsets in an amount equivalent to an estimated carbon footprint. A project's ability to issue offsets depends on a set of rigorous conditions. In order for a project to issue offsets, the emission reductions or removals must be validated as additional, measurable, auditable, permanent, and unique.
